Good Morning!
Good morning and blessings to you on this Wednesday, September 2nd! Today, we invite you to lean into lament—to understand that honest grief honors God far more than pretended praise ever could. In a world that often tells us to hide our tears and mask our pain, Scripture calls us to a different way. God does not require our performance; He desires our authenticity. Let us release what we’ve been holding back and trust in His tender nearness.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that have carried hidden sorrows for too long. We confess that we have sometimes chosen to appear strong rather than be honest with You. Lord, receive the tears we’ve held back. Meet us in our grief and remind us that You are close to the brokenhearted. Help us to trust You with our deepest pain, knowing that vulnerability before You is not weakness but worship.
In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.
Daily Inspiration
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
This verse stands as one of the most tender promises in all of Scripture. It reveals a beautiful truth about God’s character: He does not stand at a distance when we suffer. Instead, He draws near. The Hebrew word for “close” here suggests intimate proximity—the kind of nearness that comforts a grieving child.
When our spirits are crushed by loss, disappointment, or the weight of life, God moves toward us, not away. He is not uncomfortable with our tears or frustrated by our sorrow. Our honest lament becomes an invitation for divine intimacy. In our most broken moments, we often discover His presence most profoundly.

Question of the Day
Is it wrong to feel angry or sad when I pray, or does God only want to hear praise?
Scripture makes clear that God welcomes the full range of human emotion in prayer. The Psalms—Israel’s inspired prayer book—overflow with lament, anger, confusion, and sorrow alongside praise. David cried out, “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?” (Psalm 13:1). Job questioned God directly in his suffering. Jesus Himself wept at Lazarus’s tomb and cried out in anguish in Gethsemane.
God created our emotions and understands them completely. He invites us to pour out our hearts honestly before Him (Psalm 62:8). Authentic grief is not a failure of faith—it is faith in action, trusting God enough to show Him our true selves.

Moment of Reflection
Take a moment to consider: What grief am I suppressing to appear strong? Perhaps before others, or even before God Himself? Recall a time when you felt God’s nearness most powerfully during honest mourning. That sacred memory reminds us that lament draws God near. He honors our honesty with His presence.
Thought for the Day
We live in a culture that celebrates strength and often equates vulnerability with weakness. Even within the church, we can fall into the trap of believing that “good Christians” should always be joyful, always grateful, always praising. But this expectation can lead us to suppress genuine grief, burying pain beneath spiritual platitudes.
Biblical lament offers a different path. It teaches us that bringing our sorrow honestly before God is an act of profound faith. When we lament, we declare that God is big enough to handle our pain, trustworthy enough to receive our tears, and loving enough to meet us in our darkness.
Consider the great saints of Scripture—David, Jeremiah, Hannah, even Jesus. They wept. They cried out. They questioned. And God did not rebuke them for their honesty; He drew close. Today, give yourself permission to grieve honestly before God. Your tears are not a sign of faithlessness but of trust.
Closing Blessing
May the God of all comfort draw near to you today. May He receive every tear you’ve held back and replace your hidden sorrows with His abiding peace. May you know the sacred gift of His presence in your most vulnerable moments. Go in His grace, beloved.
