Together with Voice of the Martyrs
Spend 40 days on the frontlines with persecuted Christians.
A woman who said six months in a Chinese prison was “a wonderful time.”
An Iraqi pastor who praised God just eight days after assassins’ bullets ripped into his flesh.
A former drug addict turned evangelist who used a blank notebook to recreate as much of the Bible as he could from memory while imprisoned.
These are just a few of the persecuted Christians you’ll meet in When Faith Is Forbidden. Their stories will encourage and challenge you as you live faithfully for Jesus on the sometimes-difficult path to our heavenly home.

Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts this morning. Let us carry Your aroma into every room we enter today. Fill us so completely with Your Spirit that others cannot help but sense Your presence when we are near. May our words, actions, and very demeanor reflect the sweet fragrance of Christ’s love. Transform us into vessels that leave the lingering scent of heaven wherever we go.
In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.
Daily Inspiration
“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.” — 2 Corinthians 2:15
In ancient times, when a Roman general returned victorious from battle, a triumphant procession would fill the streets with the burning of fragrant incense. The aroma signified victory and celebration to all who witnessed it.
Paul uses this powerful imagery to describe our role as believers. We are living incense—carrying the victorious fragrance of Christ wherever we go. This isn’t about wearing the right perfume or having pleasant manners. It’s about being so saturated with Christ’s presence that His character emanates from our very being. When we spend time with Jesus, His fragrance naturally clings to us, and others notice something different—something heavenly—about us.
Question of the day
How can I practically carry Christ’s fragrance in difficult environments like a hostile workplace or tense family gathering?
The beauty of being Christ’s aroma is that it doesn’t depend on favorable circumstances. In fact, fragrance is often most noticeable in stale or unpleasant environments. Romans 12:21 instructs us, “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” When you respond to hostility with patience, to criticism with grace, and to tension with peace, you release the unmistakable fragrance of Christ. Galatians 5:22-23 describes this fragrance—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These fruits become most aromatic precisely when circumstances least warrant them.

Moment of Reflection
Think about the environments you’ll enter today—your workplace, your home, the grocery store, perhaps a difficult meeting. What atmosphere do you typically create when you enter a room? Can you recall a time when the entire environment shifted simply because a Christ-like person walked in? That person could be you today. Christ’s fragrance lingers through us long after we’ve left.
Thought for the day
Fragrance is remarkable because it’s invisible yet unmistakable. You cannot see it, but you certainly sense it. It lingers after the source has departed, affecting everyone in its radius.
This is precisely how our Christian witness works. People may not always remember what we said or even what we did, but they will remember how they felt in our presence. Did they sense peace? Did they feel valued? Did something unexplainable draw them toward hope?
The key to carrying Christ’s fragrance isn’t trying harder to be “nice” or religious. It comes from intimacy with Jesus. Just as someone who works in a bakery naturally smells like fresh bread, someone who dwells in Christ’s presence naturally carries His aroma. The more time we spend with Him in prayer, in His Word, and in worship, the more His fragrance permeates every fiber of our being.
Leave heaven’s scent behind you today.
Closing Blessing
May the Lord make you a vessel of His sweet fragrance this week. Wherever you walk, may others catch the aroma of heaven. May His presence cling to you so completely that rooms are transformed simply by your arrival. Go now, carrying the pleasing scent of Christ to a world desperately in need of His love.
