366 Reasons Not To Fear

Days before the secret police came for him, Pastor Richard Wurmbrand read that there were 366 instances in Scripture to help Christians overcome fear—one for every day of the year, including leap year.

He was arrested on February 29. What he'd found in Scripture gave him the strength to stand firm through 14 years of imprisonment and torture in Communist Romania.

Whom Shall I Fear? invites you to encounter 366 passages to take you beyond anxiety, doubt, and fear.

Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You asking that You sharpen our skill with Your written Word. Teach us to handle Scripture with precision and power. Help us not to leave our sword sheathed when battles rage around us, but to speak Your truth boldly into every darkness we face. Give us wisdom to know which promises to declare and faith to believe them when we do.

In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.

Daily Inspiration

“Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” — Ephesians 6:17

In Paul’s famous armor of God passage, the sword of the Spirit stands unique among all the equipment listed. While the other pieces—belt, breastplate, shoes, shield, and helmet—are primarily defensive, the sword serves both to defend and to attack. It is the only offensive weapon God has given us for spiritual warfare.

Notice that this sword is specifically identified as “the word of God.” The Greek word used here is rhema, meaning a spoken word—Scripture declared aloud with authority. When Jesus faced Satan in the wilderness, He didn’t merely think Scripture; He spoke it: “It is written.” Each declaration sent the enemy retreating. Spoken Scripture carries divine force because it releases God’s power into the atmosphere of your circumstances.

Question of the day

How can I effectively use Scripture when I’m feeling overwhelmed by anxious thoughts?

The Bible offers us a beautiful pattern for combating anxiety through the declaration of God’s Word. Philippians 4:6-7 instructs us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” When anxious thoughts arise, speak Scripture directly to them. Declare Psalm 94:19: “When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.” Proclaim Isaiah 41:10: “Fear not, for I am with you.”

The practice of speaking God’s promises aloud engages your mind, interrupts anxious thought patterns, and invites the Holy Spirit’s peace. Jesus modeled this when He rebuked the storm with His words—you can do the same with the storms in your mind.

Moment of Reflection

Consider this question today: What battle am I currently fighting without using Scripture? Perhaps it’s a struggle with fear, a conflict in a relationship, or a season of doubt. Think back to a time when you declared God’s Word with authority and witnessed a stronghold demolished. That same power is available to you right now. What Scripture will you speak over your battle today?

Thought for the day

A soldier who carries a sword but never draws it is no threat to the enemy. Too many believers possess Bibles filled with powerful promises yet face their daily struggles as if they were unarmed. The sword of the Spirit is not a decoration—it is a weapon designed for active combat.

Consider the walls of Jericho, which fell not by siege weapons but by obedience and proclamation. Think of David, who declared God’s name aloud before defeating Goliath. Remember how Jesus silenced demons with spoken commands rooted in His Father’s authority. Throughout Scripture, we see that spoken words aligned with God’s truth carry transformative power.

Your circumstances may feel immovable today, but the Word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. Don’t just read it—speak it. Declare it over your health, your family, your finances, your fears. When you open your mouth and release Scripture with faith, you partner with the Holy Spirit in dismantling every stronghold that stands against the knowledge of God.

Closing Blessing

May the Lord place His Word like fire in your mouth this week. May you wield Scripture with holy confidence, watching strongholds crumble and darkness flee. Go forth knowing that the same power that spoke the universe into existence now works through you. Be blessed, be bold, and let His Word prevail.
