Your Daily Devotion for May 17th

Good Morning!
Today is Saturday, May 17, a fresh day where we embrace the discipline that faithfully leads us into deeper discipleship. Let God’s loving correction shape your heart today in ways that bring you ever closer to Christ.
“Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”
Hebrews 13:3
God’s Word instructs us as believers to remember those in prison as if we were behind bars, sitting right next to them.
But how can we do this?
Thanks to Prison Fellowship, living out this verse is simple and life-changing for us and for our incarcerated brothers and sisters.
How? Bibles.
Your gift today to Prison Fellowship will put Bibles and Christian content into the hands of waiting prisoners. Give now to reach men and women with what they need most: God’s Word! Thank you for caring for those in prison.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Mold our hearts through Your correction and training. Grant us the humility and wisdom to accept discipline as Your grace, teaching us to reflect Christ’s character more brightly and clearly each day.
In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.
Daily Inspiration
“Hebrews 12:11: “No discipline seems pleasant at the time… later on it produces a harvest of righteousness…””
God’s discipline may seem difficult or painful at first, yet through it, our Heavenly Father lovingly shapes us into more mature followers of Christ. Just as an artist carefully shapes rough stone into beauty, so God patiently refines your heart and character.
Question of the day
In which area do I need God’s loving discipline to shape me?
Each of us has blind spots and imperfections—in patience, assertiveness, temperance, humility, or faithfulness—that the Lord wants to transform. Consider Psalms 139:23–24 which says, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Pray for His gentle yet firm discipline to mold you in precisely that area where growth is needed most. Trust that His discipline arises out of profound fatherly love, equipping you for righteousness (Hebrews 12:6).

Moment of Reflection
Reflect on a moment when hardship led you to valuable spiritual growth. Remember how difficulties forged resilience, strengthened your prayer life, and built a deeper faith in God’s sustaining power.
Thought for the day
God’s discipline, although challenging and uncomfortable in the moment, is ultimately an expression of His unconditional love. Just as a gardener carefully prunes his plants, removing dead branches to encourage new, vigorous growth, God lovingly prunes our lives with discipline. Trust His refining hand—He is crafting beauty from every rough edge, producing growth, maturity, and righteousness in ways we cannot yet see.
Closing Blessing
May God’s refining touch rest upon you today, gently shaping and guiding you toward the beauty of holiness. May His grace sustain you in disciplined growth, filling your life with purpose, righteousness, and peace.
