Good Morning!
Good morning, beloved! On this Tuesday, June 23rd, we gather our hearts to consider what it means to worship with holy abandon. As you begin your day, may you be stirred to pour out lavishly upon the One who poured out everything for you. The calculating mind hesitates, but the loving heart overflows. Today, let us embrace the beautiful scandal of extravagant worship.

Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts eager to give beyond measure. Forgive us for the times we have calculated our devotion, measured our offerings, and held back our worship. Teach us the freedom found in reckless generosity toward You. Break open the alabaster jars of our hearts, that the fragrance of our love might fill every room we enter. May our giving honor You as King.
In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.
Daily Inspiration
“She broke the jar and poured the perfume on His head.” — Mark 14:3
In this powerful moment, an unnamed woman approached Jesus with an alabaster jar of pure nard—worth an entire year’s wages. She didn’t measure out a portion or save some for later. She broke the jar completely and poured out every drop upon her Savior’s head.
The disciples were indignant, calling it waste. They calculated the monetary value and found her devotion offensive to their sensibilities. But Jesus saw something entirely different. He saw worship. He saw love that couldn’t be contained by practical considerations. He declared that wherever the gospel would be preached, her act would be remembered.
This woman understood something profound: Jesus is worth everything. Her extravagance wasn’t waste—it was the only appropriate response to who He is.
Question of the Day
Why does sacrificial giving actually deepen our intimacy with God rather than diminish our resources?
Scripture reveals a beautiful paradox: the more we give to God, the closer we draw to Him. Jesus taught in Matthew 6:21, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” When we invest our resources—whether time, money, talents, or affection—into the Kingdom, our hearts follow that investment.
Sacrificial giving requires trust, and trust builds relationship. When the widow gave her two small coins (Mark 12:41-44), she demonstrated complete dependence upon God. That posture of vulnerability opens the door to deeper communion. We cannot out-give God, for He multiplies what we offer and returns to us something far greater: Himself. Our generosity becomes a pathway to experiencing His faithfulness in ways the calculating heart never discovers.

Moment of Reflection
What offering feels too extravagant to give? Perhaps it’s your time, guarded carefully against intrusion. Maybe it’s your reputation, your comfort, or your financial security. Whatever you’ve been holding back, consider this: the jar must be broken to release the fragrance. Unbroken vessels may look beautiful on the shelf, but they cannot anoint the King.

Thought for the Day
Extravagance offends the calculating because it operates by a different economy altogether. The world measures worth by scarcity and return on investment. But the Kingdom measures worth by the One being honored. When we truly see Jesus for who He is—the King of Kings, the Lamb who was slain, the Lover of our souls—no offering seems excessive.
Consider what you’re holding in reserve. We often give God our leftovers: leftover time after our schedules are full, leftover energy after we’ve exhausted ourselves on lesser things, leftover money after we’ve secured our comforts. But the woman with the alabaster jar gave first, gave fully, and gave sacrificially.
Extravagance honors the King precisely because it declares His supreme worth. It proclaims that He deserves more than reasonable devotion—He deserves everything. Today, give beyond what’s reasonable. Let your worship be so lavish that it confounds the calculating. For in that holy recklessness, you will find the joy of true devotion.
Closing Blessing
May the Lord receive your reckless generosity with delight. May He multiply the fragrance of your worship to fill every corner of your life. And may you discover that in pouring out lavishly, you are being filled with something far more precious—the intimate presence of your King. Go in extravagant love.
