This verse appears within David’s description of the righteous person who may dwell in God’s presence. Notice the striking qualifier: “even when it hurts.” Biblical integrity isn’t measured when keeping promises is convenient—it’s revealed when honoring our word costs us something significant.

The Hebrew understanding of an oath carried the weight of one’s entire being. To break a vow was to fracture one’s own identity. God Himself demonstrates this covenant faithfulness throughout Scripture, keeping His promises to Abraham’s descendants despite their repeated unfaithfulness.
