Soften hardened hearts—both ours and those we have hurt—that restoration may flow freely. Help us honor You by loving others well.

Daily Inspiration

Matthew 5:24: “Leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them.”

These words from Jesus come in the middle of the Sermon on the Mount, where He elevates the standard of righteousness beyond outward religious acts to the condition of our hearts. Notice the urgency—“leave your gift there.” Don’t finish the offering. Don’t complete the ritual. Stop everything.

Jesus is teaching us that God doesn’t want our worship compartmentalized from our relationships. A fractured relationship with a brother or sister creates static in our communication with the Father. Reconciliation isn’t optional homework to complete when convenient; it’s prerequisite to authentic worship. When we make peace with others, we clear the path for our prayers to rise unhindered.

Question of the day

Why does God care so much about my relationships with others when worship is supposed to be about Him?

God’s design has always been relational. We were created for communion—first with Him, then with one another. In 1 John 4:20, we read, “Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.” Our horizontal relationships reflect our vertical relationship with God. When we harbor unforgiveness or allow conflict to fester, we demonstrate a heart not fully surrendered to His love. God cares about reconciliation because He is a God of reconciliation—He sent His Son to reconcile us to Himself (2 Corinthians 5:18-19).

Moment of Reflection

Think back to a time when you settled an unresolved conflict. Remember how worship flowed freely afterward? That lightness in your spirit, that clarity in prayer—this is what God desires for you always. What broken relationship are you stepping over on your way to worship? Who comes to mind right now? The Holy Spirit is faithful to reveal what needs healing.

Thought for the day

Reconciliation clears the altar. This simple truth carries profound implications for our spiritual lives. We often treat worship as an isolated act—showing up to church, singing songs, giving offerings—while ignoring the relational debris scattered around our lives. But Jesus sees the whole picture.

The altar represents our most sacred space of connection with God. When unresolved conflict clutters that space, it’s like trying to have an intimate conversation in a room full of noise. God isn’t being petty or legalistic; He’s being loving. He knows that bitterness, anger, and broken relationships poison our souls and distort our perception of Him.

Making peace before we pray isn’t about earning God’s approval—it’s about positioning our hearts to fully receive what He wants to give. Today, take the courageous step. Send that text. Make that call. Write that letter. Clear the altar, and watch how freely your worship begins to flow.
