Today’s Prayer

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, asking You to restore holy awe within us. Forgive us for the times we have approached You too casually, forgetting Your magnificent holiness. Open our eyes to see Your glory anew. Teach us what it means to truly revere You—not out of terror, but out of deep love and profound respect for who You are. May our reverence draw us closer to Your wisdom and understanding.

In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.

Daily Inspiration

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” — Proverbs 9:10

This powerful verse reveals a profound spiritual principle: true wisdom doesn’t begin with education, experience, or intellect—it begins with reverence for God. The Hebrew word for “fear” here encompasses awe, respect, and humble submission before the Almighty.

Think of it as a master key. Without the fear of the Lord, we may accumulate facts and information, but we lack the framework to apply them rightly. When we approach God with trembling reverence, acknowledging His supreme authority and infinite holiness, He opens the treasure vault of wisdom to us. This isn’t a cowering fear that drives us away, but a holy awe that draws us near with appropriate humility.

Question of the day

How can I develop a healthy fear of the Lord without becoming afraid of God?

The fear of the Lord is fundamentally different from being scared of God. Scripture shows us that this holy fear is relational reverence—like a child who deeply respects their loving father. In 1 John 4:18, we read that “perfect love drives out fear,” referring to tormenting fear, not reverent awe.

To cultivate healthy fear of the Lord, meditate on His attributes: His holiness (Isaiah 6:3), His power (Jeremiah 32:17), and His love (Romans 8:38-39). Study passages where people encountered God—Moses at the burning bush, Isaiah in the temple, John on Patmos. Their responses combined awe with intimacy. Practicing this reverence means approaching prayer thoughtfully, handling Scripture carefully, and living with awareness that God sees all things.

Moment of Reflection

Where has familiarity with God bred unhealthy casualness in your life? Perhaps it’s in hurried prayers, distracted worship, or treating His commands as suggestions. Take a moment to recall a time when you approached God with trembling reverence—the insight gained, the peace received, the transformation experienced. Let that memory rekindle holy awe in your heart today.

Thought for the day

Reverence opens wisdom’s door. This simple truth carries life-changing implications. In our modern age, we’ve rightly emphasized God’s love, grace, and accessibility. Yet sometimes this beautiful intimacy can slip into something unhealthy—treating the Creator of the universe as a cosmic buddy rather than the Holy One enthroned in glory.

Consider the great saints throughout Scripture and church history. Abraham, who called himself “dust and ashes” before God, received covenant promises. Moses, who removed his sandals on holy ground, became God’s friend. Isaiah, who cried “Woe is me!” upon seeing God’s glory, became a mighty prophet. Their reverence didn’t create distance—it established the proper foundation for profound relationship.

When we approach God with genuine awe, we position ourselves to receive His wisdom. We listen more carefully. We obey more readily. We trust more completely. Today, approach God with holy reverence, and watch wisdom’s door swing wide open.

Closing Blessing

May the Lord fill your heart with holy awe that draws you ever closer to His throne. May His wisdom guide your steps and His understanding illuminate your path. As you walk in reverent fear of the Lord, may you discover treasures of insight that transform your life and bless those around you. Go in His peace and majesty.
