Your Daily Devotion for August 14th

Today’s devotion is brought to you by Goli — makers of simple, delicious, and effective wellness gummies.
Good Morning!
Good morning, dear friends, on this Thursday, August 14th! As we awaken to fresh mercies this day, let us embrace empathy, practicing the sacred act of listening more than we lecture.
May this day inspire us to truly hear one another’s hearts.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Open our ears today, that we may attentively listen and compassionately acknowledge the feelings, struggles, and joys of those around us. Help us speak less and understand more, that through our presence, Your loving kindness may shine forth.
In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.
Daily Inspiration
"Be quick to listen, slow to speak." — James 1:19
The apostle James reminds us that sincere listening lays the groundwork for genuine relationships. When we rush to speak, we often overlook heartaches or miss opportunities to extend comfort. Listening deeply slows our pace and aligns our hearts with Christ, who himself always had time to hear and hold space for others.
Today, practice listening intentionally, allowing Christ’s love to flow through your undivided attention.

Question of the day
Why is listening well so important in the Christian walk?
Listening carefully is vital because it shows reverence for God’s call to love one another deeply (1 Peter 4:8). Proverbs reminds us, “To answer before listening—that is folly and shame” (Proverbs 18:13). Importantly, Christ himself modeled compassionate listening, responding to people’s inner cries as well as their spoken words. By listening attentively, we demonstrate respect, humility, and Christ’s love in our relationships, building trust and validating others’ worth before offering counsel or advice.

Moment of Reflection
Recall a time when you felt genuinely valued simply because someone took the time to listen, without giving immediate solutions or unsolicited advice. How can you extend that same blessing of empathetic listening to someone in your life today?
Thought for the day
Listening is love in action. True empathy moves beyond mere sympathy—it is being wholly present, accepting silence, and refraining from filling conversation with our own voice. Before you offer advice today, pause and offer your full presence. Sometimes the greatest help we can provide is not solutions, but sincere listening that affirms and dignifies the other person. Let us strive to reflect Christ’s quality of attentive, compassionate listening in all our interactions today and always.
Closing Blessing
May God open your ears and quiet your heart today. May each person you encounter feel seen, heard, and deeply valued because of your compassionate, Christlike understanding. Go in peace, guided by love-filled listening, and be blessed in your attentive care.
